VINHA DO TORRÃO GRANDE ESCOLHA 2019

Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouchet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot are the grapes assembling  this ambitious wine from the Peninsula de Setùbal, commemorating the 100 years of Casa Ermelinda Freitas.

The company has been producing wine since 1920. Currently 29 different varieties are being cultivated on 550 hectares of vineyards located in Fernando Pó, in the region of Palmela, south Portugal. The soil is mostly composed of sand. Vineyards benefit from a warm maritime climate refreshing by the river breezes during the dry summer. The current manager, Leonor, is the 4th generation of winemakers of this dynamic company that was founded in 1920. She has been responsible for the developments within the company. The Setubal Peninsula south of Lisbon is bordering with the region of Alentejo. The area is classified as Vinho Regional, the category of wines corresponding to the French so-called Vins de Pays.

Granda Escolha shows a garnet red color. It has ripe berry and plum scents backed by oak complexity, while the palate is mouth-filling with a soft texture in a settled balanced style with a delicious underlaying sweetness and a lingering warm finish.
