ARANYMETSZÉS BADACSPNYI SZURKEBARÁT 2018

Hungary, land-locked between Austria and Romania, has a long wine-growing history. Its most famous wine is the rich and sweet Tokaj Aszu. The continental climate involving cold winters and hot summers, together with volcanic basalt overlain with sand and clay are giving characterful wines, full-bodied thanks to their high sugar content.

The western part of Hungary between the Austrian border and the Dunabe river contains a series of wine regions influenced  by the great Balaton lake. One of these regions is Badascony on the northern side of the lake. This is the home for the fine szurkebarat, a synonym for pinot gris. Aranymetszés produces a sweet pinot gris with a beautiful gold color to slightly amber. Pretty honey and floral notes, orange peel and yellow fruit on the nose, generously aromatic with undertones of cinnamon and iodine. Textured and fresh on the palate.

A rich mid-palate with a nice balance between sweetness and acidity, juicy with an attractive savoury finish. This wine holds the middle between the heavy dessert wines and the light sweety. Its style pairs  well with food like bleu cheese or Asian dishes.
